there's been better days than this and they'll be better days to come (I hope)

incredibly busy weekend; way too many soccer games, like seven. It was a time occupying weekend which I needed to get my mind off major and pervasive sadness. It's creeping on me again right now but I'm fighting it.

Not anything I can talk about, but believe you me, I'm looking for the small things in every moment to be reassured and comforted.

I did receive my most awesome gift from Right on the Walls. It's a fabulous family decal and I can't wait to get it up on the walls when I get the room done that it's going into! I'll be sure to share a picture with you. Thanks Georgie for the giveaway!

Q's football banquet yesterday was long but enjoyable. He got recognized as a JV player even though he was mostly part of the 9th grade team and only moved up the last few games of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes Varsity next year if he keeps up his awesome commitment to working out and showing up for all things sports at the high school. The way he's going (14 yrs old, 215lbs, 6'2" and working out daily), he'll be a force to be reckoned with! That's my boy.

Ok, off to fight the Monday blues on top of the other crap. Have a fantastic day!

Oh for the love of.......food

Feeling a little blah this week, darn PMS and lack of money issues...you know what I thought of to make myself feel better....

  • paid ahead for meal Thursday evening for Austin's Soccer Banquet (note to self get picture poster board done)

  • paid ahead for meal Sunday afternoon for Quintin's Football Banquet (note to self bring toothpicks to prop eyes open for a long boring afternoon)

  • paid for meal the following Friday for brother's rehearsal dinner (thanks mom and dad)

  • paid for meal the next day, Saturday, for brothers wedding reception (thanks Daniel & Courtney).

Notice the VERY obvious relationship all these events have.....food! That's what made me feel better last night. Go figure.

I can't do much about the money situation. Four soccer payments, two tux rentals and a nice wedding gift....not to mention the monthly bill requirements that just don't go away. Oh well...c'est la vie.

For all those men who say, Why buy a cow when you can get the milk for free?

Here's an update for you: Nowadays, 80% of women are against marriage, WHY?

Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

A real post...

So what's going on…I've been a little sparse lately in my "real" posting so to bring you up-to-date…read on…

Work has been hectic…10 hour days, yesterday no lunch, really busy, but at least the days are going by quickly.

We got new cell phones this week. Ford switched from Sprint to Verizon (wow how much did that suck for Sprint?). The new phones are just okay, nothing special, but they are lighter and with bigger display screens. It's the Motorola Barrage. One of my co-workers got on the wrong (right?) list and ended up getting a really cool Blackberry…hopefully she'll be able to keep it.

High School Football is done. High School Soccer is done. Kaylen's outdoor travel soccer is one week from being done. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

Really enjoying the possibilities this week…they are endless. I have time to go shopping (if I had the money), to the library (if I had the inclination), to do housework (if I really cared), to work on quilts (if my machine was fixed) and to relax (ahh, now there's the ticket) as my kids have little to nothing going on. As a matter of fact, Kaylen is the only one with sports this week - two practices and two games and then we can relax for a week or so before indoor starts up!

I was a weiner this week! How exciting. This is an aspect of blogging I never thought of when I started in 2005…holding giveaways and winning giveaways and I've done it again. I believe this is the fourth win I've pulled out. First was a Ticketmaster gift card, next was a ice cube tray, third was a ring and now, one I'm very excited about, from my blogging buddy Georgie over at Decisionally Challenged, a Righting on the Walls Gift Card! Go check out their site. I've always been a big fan of stickers….from way back in elementary school when I had a sticker collection….to high school when I had a Local Motion sticker on my car…to now when I have a wall sticker with an Aristotle quote about nature (for the deer heads in my basement!) and soccer stickers for the kids on the back of my car, so this win was right up my alley! I'm so excited. This has been a year of remodeling for us in the house and I still have a lot of finishing touches and decorating to complete the rooms we've redone. I don't exactly know where this decal will go but I'm sure it's going to be the one I liked that said our family name and was year we were "established". Can't Wait! Thanks to Georgie and Righting on the Walls for this great giveaway!

Lots of sickies going around. Q and Austin have both been pretty sick but seem to have gotten over it, thankfully. Keep safe & healthy! Blog ya later,

Epic Parking FAIL!

What's funny about it is you can just imagine the driver sitting there after pulling back and thinking to themselves "what the ____ did I just do? Holy Crap!" Then they come to the realization that maybe no one saw them and they should just high tail it outta there. Crazy stuff eh?

Great preventative flu season tips!

You know everyone is (or should be) being a little more cautious about hygiene and paying attention to the health of the people around you, what you touch, etc. We are just scared of any kind of epidemic or pandemic sickness and for good reason. There are still several people from generations past that remember sicknesses like that which regularly killed people and were highly communicable.

At my work they've gone so far as to post sheets on how to properaly wash your hands in both the bathrooms and the kitchenettes. We laughed at first, but hey, maybe some people need that reminder. I'm personally a little OCD about clean hands and I still get some doozie sicknesses so I know that's not really enough.

So I got this information in an email and it seemed legit and one step further than other things I've seen or read. I just may start getting familiar with salt water! Check it out:

Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital ,Bombay Hospital , Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc.. Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W). The following message given by him makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know.

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is. While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (except to eat or bathe).
3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected o ne. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at using a Neti pot to clean nasal cavities, but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*
5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

What things have you heard that will help your chances of staying healthy in these flu crazed days?
